Around fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered multiple other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests suggest the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the incident made him stunned and required to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of immigrant origin in five years prior.
