19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his first title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer his previous coach.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has consistently progressed in the past month - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's maiden trophy after the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.
Success also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a tournament with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a championship is particularly special," said ranked player the champion.
"This victory is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an better serve.
He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to take the lead.
Both players exchanged break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.
The opponent rescued 4 early-game chances in a close third set before Medvedev won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Fittingly, he earned the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
