The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its beloved RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words implies that the team is likely designing a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. For now, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously permissive, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to another adventure in this legendary franchise.
