The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

Each time a prominent honors show nears, you'll find a demand to include of new categories to honor unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

My colleague made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. Here's the proposal: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards currently feature award types recognizing Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. There’s simply nowhere to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching of another game, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • A beloved organization game was overlooked recently
  • Just some logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're modest productions, but the art in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as the most-played games in the world continuing this trend for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.

To emphasize again, these are games that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
